Higher Order Thinking Skills are the top three tiers of Bloom's Taxonomy which consists of analyze, evaluate and create. The learner is able use acquired knowledge to create new knowledge and create new ways to use the knowledge. Think about the pyramids of Egypt. They were constructed centuries ago without the convenience of any of the modern machines that we use today. The architects and builders used Higher Order Thinking Skills to design and construct the marvelous monuments that have lasted for thousands of years using the tools and technology available to them. Technology, such as online discussion boards, is useful to encourage students to have discussions about topics or prompts from the educator. The teacher guides the students but allows them to explore possible solutions. Students can use discussion board to collaborate on projects, or create study sets to aid in learning. The possibilities are as infinite as the human mind.
